WICHITA – The Newman men's soccer team looks to extend its winning streak to five straight matches on Senior Night on Saturday (Nov. 1) against Rogers State at Wilkins Field. The match starts at 7:30 p.m. after the women's soccer contest. Live stats and audio will be provided for the contest.
Three seniors will be recognized during the match:
Steven Hamersky,
Alan Rojas and
Javier Rojas, all of whom are playing their last home match in a NU uniform.
The Jets are currently 11-4-1 and 5-2 in the Heartland Conference, ranking second in the standings. The 11 wins are the most since a 15-4-1 season in 2002 and are the most since NU went NCAA Division II. With a 5-2 conference record, the Jets have clinched a spot in the Heartland Conference Tournament. NU ranked No. 8 in the South Central Regional poll this week, the fifth time they have been regionally ranked this season.
Vitor Okamoto was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team this week. The Jets high scoring offense is led by
Kerbson Lubin and his team-high eight goals and four assists.
Luca Anelli has tallied seven goals, and
Taylor Henry has a team-high five assists. Hamersky has started nine matches in goal and has a 1.21 goals against average with a .738 save percentage. He's 6-2 on the season with four shutouts.
Rogers State is 7-9 and 3-4 in the Heartland Conference. The Hillcats have won two of their last three matches with victories over Texas-Permain Basin, 7-5, and Dallas Baptist, 3-2. In their most recent contest, the Hillcats were shutout, 3-0, by Oklahoma Christian. Austin Sexton has a team-high six goals, and Danko Kenjic, Dylan Beaird and Caleb Pitts all add five goals. Kenjic has a team-high seven assists and 17 points.
After Saturday's contest, NU will prepare for the Heartland Conference Tournament.
