MANHATTAN – Kansas State used an early 20-0 run to pull away from the Newman women's basketball team for an 80-30 win on Monday night (Nov. 10) at Bramlage Coliseum.
Sierra Maykus led NU with 12 points and six rebounds.

Sierra Maykus kept the Jets in the game, trailing 7-6 about 4 minutes into the contest. The Wildcats then went on a 20-0 run to pull out to a 27-6 advantage with 9:38 left in the first half. Taylor Antoinette capped the run with a 3-pointer at the 9:38 mark. K-State led at halftime, 45-15, however, the Jets ended with a quick 5-0 spurt in the final 1:15.
Brianna Caldwell scored all five points, scoring on a jumper with 1:15 left and then hit a 3-pointer with 47 remaining for the 45-15 score.
The Jets shot only 27.8 percent (5-18) in the first half with 18 turnovers. The Wildcats finished the first half shooting 50 percent (18-36), including 43.8 percent (7-16) from 3-point range.
In the second half, K-State started on a 15 run to increase the edge to 60-15. The rest of the first half, the two teams played fairly even in the 80-30 game.
Sierra Maykus scored a team-high 12 points and six rebounds in 35 minutes off the bench.
Marina Ramon Lopez added six points in 16 minutes.
The Jets finished shooting 26.2 percent (11-42) from the field and 50 percent (5-10) from the free throw line. For the game, NU was forced into 27 tournovers.
The Wildcats were led by Haley Texada with 17 points, and Breanna Lewis added 12 points. Erica Young had seven rebounds, a game high.
K-State shot 50.8 percent (31-61) from the field in the game. The Wildcats held a 39-27 edge in rebounding, including a 13-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. K-State committed only 12 turnovers.
NU starts the regular season at home on Friday (Nov. 14) against Bethel College at 7 p.m. inside Fugate Gymnasium on the campus of Newman University.
