FORT SMITH, Ark. – Senior
Shelby Zoglman was named to the 2014 Heartland Conference All-Tournament Team, announced on Nov. 15 by the Heartland Conference. She was one of six selections for the team.
Zoglman, a senior from Goddard, Kan., had her best match of her career in the semifinals of the Heartland Conference Tournament. She totaled a career-high 13 kills on 25 attempts and hit a season-high .480. She finished with a double-double as she added 10 digs. It was her second double-double of her career. The senior tallied a double-double of 19 assists and 14 digs in a win over Bacone College on Oct. 14.
Zoglman appeared in 18 of 29 matches this season with 13 starts. She averaged 1.79 kills per set with 116 kills on the season. The senior hit .205. She added 26 assists and was the primary setter in a win over Bacone College when she had 19 assists. Zoglman was second on the team in block solos with 10 and totaled 30 blocks, ranking third for the Lady Jets. In her two year career at NU, she helped the Lady Jets to a 30-26 record and the best two years as a NCAA Division II program.
Joining Zoglman on the all-tournament team was Kelsey Huber of St. Mary's, Mary Koehler and Kelly Jimenez of St. Edward's and Michelle Walker and Bailey Katzfer of UA Fort Smith. Katarine Krstonosic of UAFS was named the Most Valuable Player of the Heartland Conference Tournament.
The Lady Jets advanced to the Heartland Conference Tournament for the first time since 2010. In the semifinals against No. 2 seed St. Edward's, NU lost, 3-1. The Lady Jets finished the season at 15-14, matching their most wins in Newman NCAA Division II history. NU had its first winning conference record at 9-7 since 2010.
