Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – The Newman baseball team dropped game three, 8-5, of the three game series at No. 15 St. Edward's on Saturday (March 22) at Lucian-Hamilton Field. The Jets dropped to 12-11 and 5-7 on the season.
The Hilltoppers started the game with three runs in the first inning. A two-RBI single up the middle with runners on second and third put SEU up 2-0. SEU stole home for the 3-0 advantage after one inning.
SEU added a run in the third inning on a homer for a 4-0 score.
Andrew Standish belted a home run to left field in the fourth inning to put NU on the scoreboard. The two-run shot scored
Alex Lator and Standish for a 4-2 score.
The Hilltoppers plated four runs in the fourth inning. The first SEU run scored on an error by the Jets and two RBI singles added runs. The final run of the inning scored on a NU error. SEU pulled out to an 8-2 advantage after four innings.
In the eighth inning, the Jets' rally came up short, but NU plated three runs for an 8-5 score.
Mitchell Beaudreau scored the first Jet run on a wild pitch. A throwing error by SEU allowed
Jarrod Flax and
Kyle Johnston to score.
Lator had a great game at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one run scored.
The Jets travel to Pittsburg State on Tuesday (March 25) for one nine inning game at 3 p.m. in Pittsburg, Kan.
