Jets Fall To Bulldogs 5-4 In Extras

Box Score WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State defeated the Jets 5-4 in 11 innings on Tuesday afternoon.  Andrew Standish went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, but the Jets were held scoreless over the final five frames as the Bulldogs walked off in 11.

Blake Brommel worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the first, inducing a groundout and a fly out to center to keep the game scoreless.  SWOSU would push a run across in the bottom of the second after the first two batters reached and moved up on a sacrifice, then used a sac fly to take a 1-0 lead.  The Bulldogs added to their lead in the bottom of the third, using two hits and a couple of free bases to score two more runs and take a 3-0 lead to the fourth inning.  Newman finally broke through in the top of the fourth, with Mitchell Beaudreau wearing one to get the inning going.  Ricky Sanchez came through with the first hit of the game for the Jets, scorching a triple over the right fielder's head to score Beaudreau and cut the lead to 3-1.  Andrew Standish followed up with a single up the middle to make it 3-2, and after Standish swiped second base, Jordan Ollenberger bounced a single through the right side for the RBI and locked the game up 3-3.

Newman broke the tie in the top of the sixth, this time with Standish serving as the offensive sparkplug.  After blooping a single into left to lead off the inning, Standish wound up at third base after the pitcher's pickoff throw bounced up the right field line.  Kyle Johnston picked Standish up with a groundout to short, allowing him to score and putting the Jets up 4-3.  SWOSU responded immediately though, using small ball to tie the game up 4-4 going to the seventh inning.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the 11th, when the Bulldogs strung together three straight two-out hits to walk off 5-4.  The loss drops the Jets to 22-25 on the year, but Newman is 15-12 in conference play and remains in control of their own destiny going into the final weekend of the regular season.  Newman hosts Arkansas Fort Smith for a three-game series beginning Friday afternoon, with the Jets needing only one of those games to clinch a spot in the conference tournament.  First pitch for Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m. at McCarthy Field.
