Box Score WICHITA – A header from
John Senseman off a corner kick lifted Newman men's soccer to a 1-0 season-opening victory over William Jewel on Friday (Sept. 5) at Wilkins Field. The Jets moved to 1-0 on the season.
Senseman knocked in the corner kick from
Victor Rojas for a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute of action. Rojas got the assist on the goal.
A physical first half saw a total of 25 fouls, slowing down the flow of the match. The first 45 minutes totaled five shots between the two teams with NU holding a 3-2 advantage.
The second half opened up with the Jets starting to control play. NU finished with eight shots in the second half to four from WJC. Five of the NU shots were on goal, including the lone goal.
Steven Hamersky picked up the shutout win in goal. He made two saves in 90 minutes. The defense of

Richard Wincer,
John Senseman and
Gbonju Odukale held WJC to six shots.
The Jets continue their seven-match homestand to start the season with Maryville on Sunday (Sept. 7) at 1 p.m. at Wilkins Field. The Saints are also 1-0 with a 7-2 victory over Southwest Baptist on Thursday.
