WICHITA – The Newman baseball team returns to Heartland Conference Play Today (March 13) with a doubleheader against Oklahoma Panhandle State at McCarthy Field. The doubleheader starts at 3 p.m., and live stats are available. The three-game series concludes tomorrow (March 14) with one game at 1 p.m.
The Jets got back on track on Wednesday (March 11) with a thrashing of Fort Hays State by the score of 11-0.
David Herrera went 4.1 innings in his start, allowing only four hits with three strikeouts.
Lane Ramsey and
Kevin Luman combined to pitch the final 2.2 innings and only gave up one hit. Luman totaled two strikeouts in one inning of work. The bats got going as NU totaled 10 hits from seven different players.
Tyler Evans and
Aaron Mack went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Alex Lator totaled three RBI. Bugner leads the team on the season in batting average at .400. Seven Jets are hitting above .300 on the season. Probable starters on the mound this weekend are
Lucas Schauer,
Cody Fredericksen and
Dylan Porter.
The Aggies are currently 2-15 on the season, but defeated UA Fort Smith in their last game, 8-3. OPSU also won 7-6 over Adams State on Feb. 21 on a walk off single. This weekend is OPSU's first road games of the season. They are 2-15 at home. Lucas Ogaz leads the team with a .409 average in only seven games, all starts. Chase Graf is hitting .349, and Nick Crosswhite is at .306.
NU and OPSU played two non-conference games early in the season in Goodwell, Okla. The Jets won both games by the scores of 9-2 and 5-3. on Feb. 7-8.
After this weekend's series, the Jets travel to William Jewell on March 17 for one game at 2 p.m. in Liberty, Mo.
