WICHITA – The Newman baseball team returns home to take on Northwestern Oklahoma State tonight (March 24) at 6 p.m. at McCarthy Field. Live stats will be available for the non-conference nine-inning contest.
The Jets return home after winning a three-game Heartland Conference series at Texas-Permian Basin on Sunday and Monday (March 22-23) in Odessa, Texas. NU swept a doubleheader on Sunday by the scores of 10-8 and 10-9. Earlier in the week, the Jets defeated No. 19-ranked Washburn in Wichita by a 6-1 score. For the season, the Jets are 11-12 and 4-5 in the conference.
Tyler Bugner leads the Jets with a .430 batting average with a team-high 37 hits. He has a team-high .528 on base percentage. Four other Jets are hitting over .300.
Garett Thomas has a team-high 10 doubles with his .345 average.
Tyler Evans is at .337 and has a team-high 13 stolen bases.
Andrew Standish has totaled a team-high 31 RBI with a .330 average. And DH
Daniel Jahnke is at .306 with 11 hits in 16 games.
Tanner Lee will start on the mound for the Jets. He has a 6.95 ERA in six appearances. It's his second straight of the season.
The Rangers are currently 13-13 on the season and 6-9 in the Great American Conference. In their most recent series, NWOSU played Southern Nazarene in a three-game series and got two out of three wins. The Ranger offense is led by Jeff Martin with a .361 average and 24 RBI. Matt Benn hits .311 with 12 RBI and eight doubles, tying first on the team with Martin.
After tonight's game, the Jets welcome rival Oklahoma Christian to McCarthy Field for a three-game series on Friday and Saturday (March 27-28). Live stats and audio will be available.
