FORT SMITH, Ark. – The Newman baseball team looks to stay in the postseason hunt at UA Fort Smith this weekend in a three-game Heartland Conference series. The showdown starts today (April 10) at 1 p.m. at Crowder Field with a doubleheader. The series concludes tomorrow (April 11) with one game at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available for all three contests.
The Jets are currently sixth in the hunt for the Heartland Conference Tournament with the top four making the tourney. NU sits at 5-10. The Lions are fourth in the standings at 8-5.
NU is coming off a dominating 12-4 win at Northwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday (April 7) in Alva, Okla. The Jets totaled 16 hits and scored seven of their 12 runs in the fifth inning.

Tyler Bugner continues to lead the team in hitting at .430 with a .524 on base percentage and .529 slugging. He has 14 stolen bases on 14 attempts. His 10 doubles are second on the team.
Andrew Standish is at .350 with 38 RBI, seven doubles, two triples and one home run.
Garett Thomas leads the team with 14 doubles and is hitting .319. Lucas Shauer leads the team in wins with five and will start game one today. He has a team-high 35 strikeouts.
The Lions most recently defeated Northeastern State on Tuesday by the 7-6 score in the second game of a doubleheader. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for UAFS. The offense is led by Josh Vanderpool with a .363 average and 34 RBI. Tyler Lein hits .342 and Justin Shealy is at .330. Kasey Cooper has a team-high seven home runs and a .314 average.
After this weekend, the Jets travel to Fort Hays State on Wednesday (April 15) for a 5 p.m. game in Hays, Kan.
