WICHITA, Kan. – The Newman volleyball team journeys back out onto the road this week but for only one conference match. This match however comes against the No. 1 team in the Heartland Conference in Arkansas-Fort Smith Thursday evening.
SCOUTING NEWMAN
The Jets (15-6, 4-2 Heartland) were on the road last weekend traveling to St. Mary's last Thursday and Texas A&M International on Saturday. Newman dominated both conference matches last weekend sweeping both the Rattlers and the Dustdevils 3-0 on their home floors. Getting both wins last weekend put the Jets on a three-game conference winning streak heading into this Thursday's match.

SCOUTING THE LIONS
The Lions (12-5, 6-0 Heartland) had a busy weekend last weekend playing three matches on the road. Arkansas-Fort Smith traveled to Texas A&M International last Thursday, sweeping them 3-0. On Saturday the Lions played two matches first against St. Mary's followed by a nonconference match against West Texas A&M in San Antonio. Arkansas-Fort Smith swept St. Mary's 3-0 and beat West Texas A&M 3-1 to wrap-up its weekend. The Lions also played a match last night at home against Harding, beating them 3-1.

-The last time Arkansas-Fort Smith lost a home match was on Oct. 9, 2014 to Newman. The Jets won the match 3-1 over the Lions.
-The Jets are currently in a tie for third place in the conference standings, while Arkansas-Fort Smith sits alone in first place.
