Jets Look To Get Back On Win Streak At OPSU

WICHITA, Kan. — Looking to get back on a winning streak after facing a lengthy string of tough teams, the Newman baseball team heads to Oklahoma Panhandle State Friday and Saturday for a three-game Heartland Conference series.

SCOUTING NEWMAN

The Jets (13-8, 1-2 Heartland) finished up a stretch of four games against ranked foes in five days with a 7-5 defeat at the hands of No. 14 Emporia State Tuesday evening. That followed up a league-opening series against No. 10 Lubbock Christian that saw the Chaparrals snag two close games after the Jets were walk-off winners in the first game of the set.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

The Aggies (4-17, 0-3 Heartland) started off Heartland Conference play last weekend against Arkansas-Fort Smith, with the Lions shooting to the top of the league standings with a three-game sweep. OPSU's four wins have all come in nonconference play, including a 7-6 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State at the beginning of the month.

NOTES

-The Aggies haven't been lighting up the scoreboard on a regular basis, but they do make opposing pitchers work, as they've drawn 92 walks over their 21 games, a number that's third in the conference and 37th in all of Division II.

-Schauer enters the weekend alone in first place in the nation with five complete games on the season. The junior has gone the distance in each game he's pitched this year, and has allowed just eight earned runs in 37 innings.
