WICHITA, Kan. — Back home after a successful weekend series on the road, the Newman baseball team looks forward to its final home Heartland Conference series against Rogers State this Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday's game will feature a tailgate in the parking lot and a t-shirt sale starting at 11 a.m. prior to the first game. There will also be charged admission to both games on Saturday with all proceeds going to a nine-month old girl from the Wichita area that is battling brain cancer as part of the Jets "Strike Out Cancer" game. Also, between games on Saturday, the team's 12 seniors will be honored as part of Senior Day at McCarthy Field.
SCOUTING NEWMAN
The Jets (26-16, 12-9 Heartland) dominated on the road at Texas A&M International last weekend, outscoring the Dustdevils 27-4 and got the series sweep. After getting the three wins last weekend, it has put NU in sole possession of fourth place in the conference standings with two weekends remaining in regular season conference play.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Hillcats (24-20, 9-12 Heartland) are coming into this weekend series in a bit of a slump in conference play, dropping the last two series against Lubbock Christian (1-2) and Texas-Permian Basin (0-3). Rogers State also played two nonconference games this week, losing to Drury 6-5 on Tuesday and beating Bacone 5-3 Wednesday afternoon.

- Bugner had an outstanding performance against Texas A&M International last weekend, going 7-for-12 with three runs scored, four doubles, one home run and seven RBIs for the series. With that performance, he earned the Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week Award and NCBWA South Central Region Hitter of the Week Award and is currently up for the national player of the week.
- With six games remaining in Heartland Conference regular season play, the Jets are fourth in the standings and they need to have another successful weekend to remain in contention for the conference tournament in two weeks. There are still seven teams that are pushing for a spot into the tournament.
