WICHITA, Kan. — Back home after a successful weekend series on the road, the Newman baseball team faces off against William Jewell in a nonconference game Wednesday afternoon at 3.

SCOUTING NEWMAN

The Jets (21-10) are coming off a weekend that saw them win two of their three games against Oklahoma Christian to move into a three-way tie atop the Heartland Conference standings. The two wins pushed Newman's recent hot streak to eight wins in its last 10 games.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

The Cardinals (19-9) started their season off by getting swept in a four-game series against Cameron, but have since picked up the pace, winning 19 of their next 22 before splitting a series against Missouri-St. Louis last weekend.

NOTES

-Only two of the Cardinals' nine losses have come by more than three runs, both coming in the season-opening series against Cameron. In addition, four of the remaining seven losses came by just one run.

-Griffin has been on a tear over the past three weeks, which include three conference series that have seen the Jets go 7-2 and a nonconference win. Over those 10 games, the junior raised his batting average 98 points, hitting .486, reaching base at a .558 clip and smacking three doubles, two home runs and knocking in 11 RBIs.

-This is the first of a home-and-home series this season between the Jets and the Cardinals. Newman heads to Liberty, Missouri for the return trip April 13.
