WICHITA, Kan. — Turning its fortunes around with an impressive two victories last week, the Newman men's soccer team opens up conference play on the road this weekend, heading to Texas-Permian Basin Thursday and Lubbock Christian Saturday.
SCOUTING NEWMAN
The Jets (2-2-0 overall) had a tough start to their season, but rebounded nicely by blowing past Southern Nazarene 4-1 on Thursday and besting Colorado-Colorado Springs 2-1 in overtime Saturday to close nonconference play.

NOTES
-The first opponent of the conference season seems familiar in UTPB, but the Falcons are part of a new deal with the Lone Star Conference that makes its four men's soccer-playing schools affiliate members of the Heartland. Joining UTPB are Midwestern State, West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico.
-Newman found its offensive spark last weekend, netting six goals in two games after being shutout in their first weekend. Fiszel popped home two game-winners, including the golden goal in overtime against UCCS — which was receiving votes in the national poll.
-UTPB has dropped all three of its games by just one goal, with two of the tie-breaking goals from their opponents coming after the 70th minute. The Falcons have trailed by multiple goals for just 22 minutes of 270 played.
-Newman won last year's meeting with LCU 3-2 in Wichita, the last loss for the Chaps before finishing the year with a 2-1 run over the final three conference games.
