WICHITA, Kan. — Getting to work in its last week of action of the regular season, the Newman wrestling team is in action for the last time at home, Wednesday against Central Oklahoma, and heads to Lindenwood Saturday for the regular-season finale.
The No. 22 Jets (1-3, 0-3 MIAA) host the conference-leading Bronchos (16-0, 3-0 MIAA), who are ranked ninth in the country, at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fugate Gymnasium. That match will be proceeded by a high school dual between Derby High School and Owasso (Oklahoma) High School, which will begin at 5 p.m.
After the challenge against UCO, they'll head to Missouri to face off against the Lions (6-3, 2-2 MIAA) Saturday at 7.
SCOUTING NEWMAN
The Jets put forth a second straight tremendous effort, pushing Fort Hays State Wednesday, with the match still up for grabs with two bouts to go before the Tigers won 26-15. Newman followed that up with a big 30-18 win over Pratt CC.

SCOUTING THE BRONCHOS
UCO is 16-0 for the first time in its storied history, recently holding off a big charge from Lindenwood, grabbing a 19-16 win on Friday. That came a week after picking up a big 22-16 triumph over Nebraska-Kearney to take charge in the race for the MIAA regular season title.

Dustin Reed (2nd at 125) and Tyler Mies (9th at 149) remain in the national rankings by D2wrestle.com, with Reed topping the Super Region 4 ranks and Mies coming in third, while Dalton Weidl joins them at fourth at 197. The Jets are 22nd in the country and ninth in the region.
Central Oklahoma features an impressive eight wrestlers in the region ranks, led by Caleb Cotter, who is second in the country and the region at 285. Greg Wilson at 197 and Josh Lindsey at 125 are both fourth in the country, while Blake Dauphin (7th/133), Josh Ailey (3rd/141), Bryan Dutton (4th/157), Dakota Head (4th/165) and Miguel Barreras (2nd/174) are regionally ranked.
For Lindenwood, Carlos Jaquez is ninth at 125, Hunter Haralson is sixth at 133 and Ronnie Gentile is 12th at 149 to give the Lions a trio of nationally ranked grapplers. Jaquez is second, Haralson second and Gentile is fourth in the Super Region 3 ranks. Colton Orlando (7th/157), Kyle Jolas (5th/165), Batchka Zulkhuu (5th/174), David Hamil (4th/184), Dylan Archer (8th/197) and Jake Borgmeyer (6th/285) are also in the regional rankings.
