Newman Set For Busy Nonconference Week

WICHITA, Kan. – After another home weekend the Newman baseball team gets set for a busy week of nonconference games with a single game at home against Emporia State Wednesday and its first true roadtrip of the season to Augustana on Saturday and Sunday.
 
SCOUTING NEWMAN
 
The Jets (5-6) went up against Upper Iowa in a four-game series Saturday and Sunday at McCarthy Field. Newman took both games against the Peacocks on Saturday, winning Game 1 13-10 and Game 2 15-12. Upper Iowa won the first game on Sunday 6-5, but Newman took the series by run-ruling the Peacocks 13-2 in the final game.

SCOUTING EMPORIA STATE
 
The Hornets (10-2) started conference play this past weekend by taking on Pittsburg State at home. Emporia State swept the Gorillas in the three-game MIAA series, taking Game 1 11-0, Game 2 13-8 and Game 3 8-6.

The Vikings (2-6) did not play this past weekend, their previous series came against Lindenwood on Feb. 18-19 in St. Charles, Missouri. Augustana went 1-2 for the series, losing Game 1 and 3 but taking Game 2 3-2.

-Rupnik plans to keep his hot streak going at the plate throughout the upcoming week of play. He went 16-of-25 from the plate with 13 RBIs, nine runs and three doubles over the past two weekends. Rupnik currently has a .500 batting average, which leads the Heartland Conference.
 
-Newman dropped both games last season to Emporia State but split a four-game home series against Augustana in 2016.
