WICHITA, Kan. — Tossing a sterling game in Newman's final contest of the year, Samuel Hersh was named the Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Hersh provided the best game of his season in the final game of a series sweep at Texas A&M International, throwing the first eight innings of a 3-0 shutout and allowing just one hit. The sophomore gave up four walks, but didn't allow any of those runners past first base, and never put multiple runners on in an inning.
This is Hersh's first weekly honor of his career, and the fifth award — and third pitcher of the week — for the team this season.
