FORT WORTH, Tex – The Newman women's soccer team pulled off one of their biggest wins in program history Saturday evening (Oct. 13) defeating DBU 1-0. The Jets for the second straight game ended another winless streak, this time against DBU dating all the way back to November, 6 2010 where they were (0-9-4) since 2010. The Jets improve to 10-1-3 on the year and improve to (6-1-3).
The first half started out much like the match that was played at Wilkins Field just three weeks ago, a lockdown defensive battle. Neither team had many opportunities in the first half despite the Jets outshooting the Patriots 3-1 through the first forty-five minutes.
Much like the first half the second half continued as a defensive battle. Jets Colleen Howland found wide open senior forward Dayna Johnson who beat the Patriots keeper giving the Jets a 1-0 lead in the 72nd minute, recording her second goal of the season.
The Jets defensive line continued to be a brick wall for the final 18 minutes securing their tenth shutout on the season. The Jets defense held the Patriots to zero shots on target in the contest.
The game was originally scheduled for 12 p.m., but Mother Nature had other plans pushing the game back 5.5 hours to a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The game was played at Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth, TX.
The Jets will return home for their final four games of the regular season, beginning on Thursday (Oct. 18) as they host St. Mary's at Wilkins Field. Kickoff scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
