Jets Remarkable Comeback Leads to 3-3 Draw at Rogers State

CLAREMORE, OKLA – The Newman women's soccer team rallied late for three goals in the final eleven minutes of regulation to force a 3-3 draw against Rogers State on Saturday (Oct. 6). With the draw the Jets move to 8-1-3 on the year and 4-1-3 in the Heartland.

The Jets got off to a dreadful start in the first half as the Hillcats took an early 2-0 advantage finding the back of the net twice in the final eight minutes of the half. Despite going into the break trailing the Jets controlled the first half outshooting the HIllcats 12-9.

Early in the second half, the game was delayed for nearly two and a-half hours due to weather. The Jets dug themselves into a deeper hole when play resumed as the Hillcats found the back of the net for a third time taking a 3-0 lead in the 66th minute.

The Jets' offense kicked it into gear starting in the 77th minute as Vanessa Ortiz's eighth goal of the season put the Jets on the board 3-1. The Jets continued to put pressure on the Hillcats defense when Kaitlyn Logan, passed the ball to the middle of the box finding the Jets leading goal scorer as Grace Linton beat the keeper up top putting the Jets back to within one, 3-2 in the 86th minute. A minute and thirty-seven seconds later Collen Howland's strike upper 90 tied the game up at 3-3.

The two teams would play a scoreless 10-minute overtime, before the game was called two minutes into the second overtime due to inclement weather.

-          The Jets scored more than one goal for the first time since September 22nd against St. Mary's

-          The Jets outshot the Hillcats 19-18 (11-7 SOG)

Things will not get any easier for the Jets as they head back on the road for their next two games against the top two teams in the Heartland. The stretch will start Thursday (Oct. 11) at 2 p.m. against conference leader St. Edwards.
