Jets Come Up Just Short Day two in Oklahoma

DURANT, Okla. — The Newman Softball team lost a tough game at the hands of Cameron University 8-4 in their first game of the day Saturday, the second game the Jets were unable to hold off another MIAA foe in Pittsburg State losing the second game 2-0.

Key Sequence

The Jets were looking at a 3-3 game in the fourth inning against the Aggies, The Aggies got some production from the bottom of their lineup when Alyssa Osterdock would score Abbey Warren giving the Aggies the 4-3 lead and the team would add another run in the bottom of the fourth, while the defense was able to hold the Jets to one run in the final three innings giving the Aggies the Victory.

How It Happened

-Newman was able to get on the board early to get the early edge on the Aggies when Delaney Hiegert got the Jets started with a single, she would advance on a wild pitch giving Erin Jankiewicz the opportunity to get that run in and she delivered scoring Hiegert with a single of her own.

-The Jets would get another run from Emma Eck who would score Jankiewicz, Eck would later score on a single by Taylor Mannis putting the Jets up 3-0 against the Aggies. Paige Wallace would get the Jets on the board again in the sixth after she singled and would later score on a Jankiewicz single but the Jets would come up just short in the comeback against the Aggies.

-Cameron was able to get on the board in the first when Brenna Busby doubled to start off the game for the team, she would later score on a Callie Busby single cutting the lead to 3-1. In the second, Anne Combs singled bringing up Warren who reached on a fielder's choice and would later score on an Alyssa Osterdock.

-The Aggies would have a big fourth inning starting when Mason would single and steal a base giving Cameron some momentum going into the latter part of the inning. Warren would come up and walk later in the fourth, she would later score on an Osterdock single. Kaylyn Smith came up and got into the action herself singling to score Osterdock this would put the Aggies up 5-3 going into the fifth. The Aggies would add three more runs in the final two innings with hits by Madyson Marvulli, Combs, and Busby giving the Aggies the game one victory. 

PITTSBURGH STATE

Key Sequence

The Jets were looking at a 1-0 deficit against the Gorillas, they were getting the production from everyone but the Jets were unable to make the comeback but the Gorillas got a run late to propel them to the 2-0 victory.

How It Happened

-Pittsburgh State got on the board in the top of the first when Lawren McKinney got everything started with a single to right field. Later Kala Holder came up and flew out to left field for the Sacrifice fly scoring McKinney and putting the Gorillas up 1-0.

-In the third, the Gorillas were back on the board when Holder hit a home run to left field this would put the team up 2-0 nothing. The Gorillas would use pitching the rest of the game to hold the Jets off and this would lead them to the victory.

-The Jets were able to Jet some hits late from Bailey Bugner, Delaney Hiegert, and Emma Eck but just came up short in their comeback attempt, the Jets were just looking for that late spark but were unable to get that late momentum.

Notes

-Infielder Bailey Bugner had another good game to start off her Jets Career going two-for-three, while Delaney Hiegert and Emma Eck both had hits for the Jets.

-Bugner has now gone four-for-six in two games of the tournament a good start for the freshman infielder.

The Jets finish tournament play Sunday Feb. 4 as they take on host Southeastern Oklahoma State at 9:30 a.m.
