HAYS, Kan. — Closing out the regular season, the Newman wrestling team fell to Fort Hays State 39-4 Wednesday night.
The Jets (3-5, 1-4 MIAA) picked up their lone points of the night over the Tigers (6-5, 2-3 MIAA) at 157 pounds, where Tyler Mies moved to 13-2 on the season with a 16-3 major decision.
Kyle Ryan kept things close at 165 before a third-period escape made the difference for Martin Verhaeghe in a 6-5 decision, and Forlanda Parker was tied in the third against Micah Felton at 184 before suffering a 3-1 loss.
The Jets kick off the postseason by hosting the MIAA Championships Sunday at Fugate Gymnasium.
