Jets Welcome Wayne State For Four-Game Series

WICHITA, Kan. — With just one final series against an opponent from outside the Heartland Conference remaining, the Newman baseball team welcomes Wayne State (Neb.) to McCarthy Field for a four-game series this weekend, with doubleheaders starting at 1 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.

SCOUTING NEWMAN

The Jets (3-7) found their game a bit last weekend, splitting a pair of doubleheaders against the University of the Southwest and Texas-Permian Basin. Their two losses each came by just one run, as they collected 24 hits and outscored their opponents a combined 21-15.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS

Wayne State (0-4) kicked off its season two weeks ago with a trip to Colorado, where it lost two game each to Colorado-Colorado Springs and Regis. The Wildcats built a 5-1 lead in their season opener before UCCS walked off with a 6-5 win, but gave up 39 runs over the next two games in lopsided losses before closing the weekend with a 4-1 loss to Regis.

NOTES

-This is the fourth straight year Newman has hosted WSC for an early-season series. The Wildcats took two of three last season, but the Jets won six of eight the previous two years.

-A nice weekend last time out has Channing Williams off to a solid start to the season. The senior is sixth in the Heartland Conference with nine RBIs and third with four stolen bases.
