DALLAS — Needing to finish in the top four to guarantee a spot in the Intercollegiate Singles Championship, Ashton Anderson and Kristen Machacek left little doubt.

The pair took the top two spots in the final standings at Friday's sectional qualifier for the Newman women's bowling team.

Anderson rolled her first career 300 game and the second in Newman program history in the third game to shoot up the leaderboard, and finished with a six-game total of 1,258 for an average of 209.7 and a comfortable 22-pin cushion on second place.

That runner-up was teammate Machacek, who didn't bowl lower than a 191 over the last five games to put together a 1,236 total, or 206.0 average, to finish second and 18 pins above the cutoff line.

The duo will be two of the 24 women to participate in the ISC, which begins April 17 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

With 100 bowlers in attendance at the sectional, the Jets pushed six into the top 35 of the final standings. Becca King averaged 190.2 to finish 19th, and Kelly Machacek put up a 183.2 average to finish 27th. Haley Williams was 32nd with a 108.8 average, and Miranda Hejny 35th, averaging 178.7.

Before they can turn their attention to nationals, Anderson and Machacek will look to help the Jets qualify as a team for the national tournament, with team action taking place Saturday and Sunday.
