KEARNEY, Neb. — The Newman Women's soccer team used a strong second half to gain an edge on Nebraska-Kearney and getting the game victory 2-0. The Jets used strong defense in both halves while their offense showed really good signs of life in the game one victory.

The Jets (1-0) were able to put the game away, when Vanessa Ortiz took the ball across the field to gain a shot advantage and scoring from 15 yards out to the far post giving the Jets a 2-0 victory against the Lopers (0-1).

How It Happened

-The game was moving along both teams unable to gain an edge offensively until the second half and the 45th minute. Grace Linton was able to take the ball from two yards out and get the tap in for the Jets first goal of the game.

-Later in the half, Vanessa Ortiz was able to take the ball across the field getting to the right side, finding her shot from 15 yards out to the far post scoring the second goal of the game and giving Newman the 2-0 victory.

Notes

-Goal Keeper Jackie Lari was able to keep the Lopers off the scoreboard saving six shots in 90 minutes.

-The Jets were able to get five shots on goal while scoring two goals on the day, Newman was also able to get 10 shots overall in the game.
