Men's Soccer Returns Home Looking for First Conference Win

WICHITA, Kan. — the Newman men's soccer team will be back at home for the first time in twenty days, as they host their first conference games of the season on Thursday and Saturday. The Jets will get the weekend started welcoming in Dallas Baptist University for an evening matchup Thursday (Sept. 27) beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Jets will wrap up the brief two game homestead against St. Edward's Saturday (Sept. 29) with kickoff slated for 2:00 p.m.

SCOUTING NEWMAN

The Jets (3-5-0, 0-4-0 Heartland) continue to look for their first conference win after going 1-4 on a five game road trip. The Jets lone victory on the previous road trip came in a non-conference matchup.

The Jets fell 3-0 last Thursday night against conference opponent West Texas A&M. The Jets fell behind early 2-0 through the first twenty minutes in the first half. The Jets had many opportunities to cut the lead in half before halftime, but unable to find the back of the net. The Jets recorded four shots on target on seven shots. The Jets' offense disappeared in the second half getting only one shot on target in the final forty-five minutes. West Texas would strike for a third goal to put the game out of reach.

Newman dropped a high scoring second half Saturday afternoon to Eastern New Mexico 4-2. The Jets and Greyhounds had a difficult time putting the ball in the back of the net for the first forty-five minutes. ENMU struck first early in the second half. Jets Victor Rubio Lopez tied things up in the fifty-fifth minute. Greyhounds took advantage again five minutes later. Jets Taylor White hammered home his second goal of the year equalizing the game at two. The Jets defense was unable to keep momentum on their side as ENMU took another lead at 3-2. The Jets had to pull defenders up on the offensive side, but unable to find the equalizer. ENMU caught the Jets with a counter attack goal putting the game out of reach in the final minute.

SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS

Dallas Baptist University (3-4-1, 1-3-0 Heartland) comes into Thursday's matchup having won their last match against UT Permian Basin 3-2. The Patriots had lost their previous three contests by three goals or more. The Patriots currently sit in last place in the south division of the Heartland Conference.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPERS

St. Edwards University (3-3-1, 2-1-1 Heartland) fared well last week with a win over UT Permian Basin and tying with Lubbock Christian. The Hilltoppers before the tie had won three of their last four contests. Hilltoppers defense has been untouchable in their last two contests allow zero goals. The Hilltoppers will stop in Claremore, OK on Thursday before traveling to Wichita for the matchup against the Jets on Saturday.
