DALLAS, Texas – The Newman University men's and women's bowling teams began the 2019 portion of the schedule with dominating performances in the SWIBC V and VI on Saturday (Jan. 12) and Sunday (Jan. 13).
SATURDAY – January, 12th
The No. 16 ranked women's bowling team cruised to their second team title of the season claiming the SWIBC V championship on Saturday (Jan. 12). Junior, Carley Sullivan claimed her first individual title of the season bowling an average score of 196. Sophomore Brittani Magee finished three spots behind Sullivan with a fourth place finish. The Topeka, Kan. native, Sullivan and Wichita, Kan. native Magee both were selected to the SWIBC V All-Tournament team with their strong performances.
The No. 10 ranked men's bowling team captured a third place finish in the SWIBC V on Saturday (Jan. 12). The men's team collected their fifth top three finish of the season on Saturday in nine tournaments.
SUNDAY – January, 13th
On Sunday (Jan. 13) the No. 16 ranked, women's bowling team continued their momentum and confidence claiming their third title of the season and second title in as many days, winning the SWIBC VI. Sullivan continued her strong weekend claiming her second individual title of the weekend averaging a score of 218 on Sunday. Maddison Osenbaugh finished three spots below Sullivan averaging a score of 202 on the day. Sullivan along with the native from Mulvane, Kan. Osenbaugh both were voted onto the All-Tournament team.
The No. 10 ranked men's bowling team would bounce back on Sunday (Jan. 13) winning their first team title of the season capturing the SWIBC VI. Sophomore, John Baeten paced the men's team bowling an average score of 227 for the tournament.
The bowling team will be back in action February, 2nd and 3rd in the McKendree Baker Challenge held in Fairview Heights, Ill. at the St. Clair Bowling Alley.
