INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- Men's Bowling traveled to Indianapolis to compete in the Hoosier Classic at Royal Pin Western Bowl. The event featured 78 teams, making it the largest Tier I field of the regular season. The two-day qualifying format included five traditional team games Saturday and 15 Baker games Sunday, with the top eight teams advancing to bracket match play.
Saturday's team games were contested on a higher-scoring lane pattern. The Jets averaged 213.8 across five games with totals of 1038, 1097, 1112, 1099, and 981. Newman closed the day in 6th place, 135 pins behind tournament leader Wichita State.
Individually,
Liam Hardman led the way with a 232 average, finishing 8th overall.
Daryus Alo averaged 223.6 to place 21st, while
Noah Akiona averaged 222.2 to finish 23rd.
Sunday brought a more challenging scoring environment for the 15 Baker games. On a lower-scoring pattern, the Jets averaged 192 and maintained their 6th-place position to earn a spot in the top eight. Bracket play introduced a third lane pattern that had a medium scoring pace for advancing teams.
As the No. 6 seed, Newman defeated No. 3 seed McKendree, 2-1 in a best-of-three Baker match. The Jets followed with another 2-1 victory over No. 2 seed Aquinas College to advance to the championship. In the final against No. 8 seed Webber International University, the Jets fell 1-3 in the best-of-five Baker match to finish second overall.
The Jets navigated three distinct lane patterns over the weekend and closed the regular season with a strong performance heading into postseason play. Newman enters the postseason ranked in the top five nationally. Postseason announcements will be made Wednesday, February 18th.
