ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Jets Competed in the Leatherneck Classic last weekend in Rockford, Ill. The Leatherneck Classic is the biggest tier two event in the country and they hosted one of the strongest fields in the season.
The Jets would start out strong on Saturday finishing in fifth place for the day. The Jets averaged 207.6 for the five traditional games. Sunday would be another story. The Jets struggled for most of the morning, but came up strong in the last four games of Baker. The Jets would qualify for the bracket play, finishing in seventh place.
The quarterfinal match would be against No. 2 seed St. Ambrose. Newman would dominate this match winning 3-0 in the best of five matches. The Jets would then move on to the semifinal match where they would face No. 3 Wichita State. The Jets and Shockers would trade punches with this match being tied 2-2 after four games. Newman would take game five to win the match over the Shockers.
The Championship match would be another great one against Calumet College. The match went into a fifth and deciding game. The Jets would finish strong to claim the Leatherneck Classic with a 3-2 victory. Newnan was led by junior
Brady Longenecker who averaged 223.2. " The guys are competing at a pretty high level," said Head Coach
Billy Murphy. "Winning three matches against top five teams in the country is a pretty special performance."
The Jets next challenge is the Team Match Games event held in Fairview Heights, Illinois hosted by McKendree University Nov 21-23.
