KEARNEY, Neb. – The No. 22 ranked Newman wrestling team had a rough go going 0-3 at the Midwest Duals, Saturday (Jan. 19). The Jets dropped matches to Colorado School of Mines 31-8, Colorado State University – Pueblo 24-16 and fell just short to Colorado Mesa 26-21. Redshirt-Freshman, Kameron Frame and No. 2 ranked Tyler Mies both concluded their days with a 3-0 record, while Thor Balavage concluded his day going 2-1 with back-to-back wins after starting the day 0-1. The Jets fall to 2-4 in dual action this year.
After dropping the first three matches to Colorado School of Mines, the signs of a Jets comeback started to show as Kameron Frame picked up a 13-7 decision ending the 13-0 Mines start. No. 2 ranked Tyler Mies made it an 8-0 Jets run after a 16-0 tech fall, cutting the deficit down to five, 13-8. A late comeback run fell just short in the second of three duals for the Newman wrestling team as the fell 24-16 to Colorado State University of Pueblo. The Jets fell behind CSU-Pueblo 12-0, but continued to battle clawing their way back rattling off a 7-0 run. Kameron Frame put the Jets on the board with a 14-4 major decision halting the CSU-Pueblo 12-0 run. No. 2 ranked Tyler Mies edged out a third-tiebreaking period winning 11-2 cutting the deficit to 12-7. After CSU-Pueblo rallied back with back-to-back decision wins, Ivan Balavage gave the Jets an opportunity with an early third period fall cutting the CSU-Pueblo lead to 18-13. Despite the match having been settled after an open weight slot in the (197-pounds), Thor Balavage squeezed out an impressive 5-2 decision victory as the Jets comeback fell short 24-16.

A back and forth match through the first four bouts had the Jets leading 9-6 after a Tyler Lawley tech fall over Bracken Lovell and a major decision from Kameron Frame over Kyle Kintz. No. 2 ranked Tyler Mies built the Jets lead to its' biggest after a fall over Luke Au-Yeung (2:07) put the Jets ahead 15-6. Colorado Mesa however quickly rallied back securing the match with a 20-0 run winning four straight bouts. Thor Balavage ended the CMU run with a second period fall (4:46) over Kyle Jennings to conclude the dual, 26-21 in favor of Colorado Mesa
