FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. — The No. 9 ranked Newman bowling teams showed strong in the McKendree Baker Challenge this past weekend (Feb. 2nd and 3rd).

The No. 9 ranked women's bowling team headed into bracket play with another top-5 finish, extending the stretch to 10 out of 11 events with a top-5 finish. The Jets opened bracket play facing the No. 4 ranked team, St. Ambrose University. In the opening round in bracket play the Jets would cruise past the Bees with a 2-0 performance. Things would not get easier as the Jets matched up against the No. 2 Lions of Lindenwood. Newman would see their bracket play run end suffering a 2-0 defeat finishing, securing a third place finish.

On the men's side, the No. 9 ranked Jets would suffer struggles on Saturday ending the day in 17th place. Looking for a surge heading into Sunday, the Jets would move up the leaderboards but the comeback run fell just short as the Jets concluded the weekend with a 12th place finishing just missing out on bracket play.

The Jets will take the week off as head coach Billy Murphy will be inducted into the Newman University Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday (Feb. 9). The Jets will hit the road the following week for the Hoosier Classic held in Indianapolis, Ind. Both teams will hit the lanes on Saturday (Feb. 16) before bracket play begins on Sunday (Feb. 17).
