CLEVELAND, Ohio. – The Newman University wrestling team saw two wrestlers claim All-America honors at the NCAA Division II Championships on Saturday (Mar. 9). No. 3 ranked Tyler Mies (157-pounds) finished with a fifth place finish, while Kameron Frame (149-pounds) finished true to his No. 6 ranking with a sixth-place finish. As a team the Jets comeback home with a 20th place team score of 18-points.

For the second-straight year Mies earned All-America honors in the 157-pounds. Despite dropping his second match of the day in the quarterfinals on the first day, Mies bounced back strong picking up a 6-4 decision win on the back side securing an All-America finish heading into the final day of the tournament.

Mies cruised into the consolation semifinals with a solid 16-4 major decision win to begin the second day of the tournament. In the consolation semi's Mies suffered his lone major decision defeat of the season 16-6 to Nate Smalling (McKendree).

Looking to beat his sixth-place finish from a year ago, Mies opened the scoring in the fifth/sixth place match with a first-period takedown. Falling behind 3-2 on a reversal just 13-seconds into the second period, Mies returned the favor with a reversal of his own. Heading into the final period with a slight 4-3 edge, Mies extended the lead with an escape point securing the lone points of the period, securing a fifth-place finish with a 5-3 decision win over James Wimer (Findlay).

In the opening day Kameron Frame (149-pounds) began turning heads upsetting the No. 2 wrestler James Pleski (St. Cloud) in a thrilling second-period tiebreaking 3-2 decision. Securing an All-America status with a 2-0 record on day one and a spot in the semifinals, Frame suffered a tough injury in the semifinals to Trey Grine (Tiffin). The freshman was forced to withdraw from the tournament landing him a sixth place finish in his first season with the Jets.

As a team, the Jets finished 20th overall with 18-points, just 4.5 points shy of cracking the top 15. St. Cloud State took home the team title with 95.5 points, followed by Wheeling Jesuit with 87.5 points and McKendree with 83 points.

Mies and Frame now make it four straight years that the Jets have secured All-Americans under head coach Ryan Smith. Over those last four years the Jets have had six All-Americans.

This is the first time in the program's Division II history, in which Newman has secured two All-Americans in back-to-back seasons at the NCAA Championships.

Mies finished the year at 30-5 overall, while Frame was 20-6.
