HAYS, Kan. – The Jets wrestling team wrestled for the first time since having their season cut short right as the national tournament was about to begin. MIAA Conference opponent Fort Hays State hosted a dual jamboree that feature three out of the four teams ranked in the top 25 nationally. Adams State was the highest ranked team in the jamboree coming in ranked #10, Fort Hays State was not far behind being ranked #12 and the Jets came in ranked #23.

Newman took on the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa in their first dual of the day. After the Jets fell behind 6-0, Tyler Lawley would get Newman on the board winning a 12-6 decision. After a forfeit would push the team score to 12-3 in favor of the Mavericks, the Jets would win the next three matches. An 8-3 decision from Baylor Smith, a 17-2 tech fall from Kameron Frame and an 8-5 decision from Noah Perkins would put the Jets up 14-12. Newman would go on to drop the final three bouts in the match as CMU would win 22-14.

In their second match of the day, the Jets were staring down a big challenge as they faced off with #10 Adams State. The Grizzlies would jump out to an early 11-0 lead behind a tech fall and a fall in the first two bouts. Lawley would once again get the Jets on the board, this time with a fall at 4:50. With Newman trailing 11-6, Adams State would win the next three bouts with a forfeit at 149 and two decisions, 4-3 and 7-6. JD Johnson would score the Jets 6 more points with a fall at the 6:15 mark to make the score 23-12. Newman would then lose the next two bouts 6-3 and 7-3 before Jacob Stoneberger would finish the match off with a fall at 1:21 as the Jets would fall to the Grizzlies 29-18.

The Jets will be back on the mat on January 17 as they host the Jet Duals, which will include a MIAA Conference matchup between Newman and Central Oklahoma beginning at 9:00 AM.
