WICHITA, Kan. – The Newman Jets will finish up their homestand this weekend as they take on the Hornets of Emporia State for MIAA Conference play starting April 2^nd at 2:00 PM.
 
Newman takes one of three at home vs Northwest Missouri State  over the Weekend
The Jets were able to take 1 out of 3 against Northwest Missouri State winning game 2 5-4.
 
Newman hitting does well over the weekend.
After struggling in game 1 of the series the Jets would have 16 hits combined in games 2 and 3 of the series.  The Jets have 7 players hitting above .300 led by sophomore Hayden VanDePol with a .432 batting average, freshman Kellan Landstad with a .389 batting average and junior Tyler Push hitting .339.  The Jets as a team have a batting average of .287 through 14 games.

The Hornets are 8-13 on the season and 4-11 in the MIAA.  Their previous matchup was against Pittsburg State on March 30^th where they would defeat the Gorillas by a final score of 10-9.  The Hornets have 4 players hitting above .300 led by Brady Michel at .441.  The Hornets Pitching staff has a team ERA of 6.13 led by led by Jake Barton with a 3.44 ERA in 34 innings.
 
Series History
This will be the 21^st, 22^nd, and 23^rd meetings between these two schools with Emporia State leading the series 16-4 over Newman but the Jets won the last matchup on Apr. 10^th, 2019 by a final score of 13-6.
