Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Jets finished up their second trip to Arkansas this weekend with a draw against the Ouachita Baptist Tigers. After a slow first half left the Jets trailing 1-0, a flood of 5 goals in the second half and a last minute equalizer propelled them to their second draw of the week. The Jets now stand with a 1-11-3 record on the season.
First HalfÂ
The game opened up with Newman going on the defensive and a pair of shots from the Tigers in the 14th minute being blocked and missing above the goal. The Jets would be able to cut through the midfield after that, finding some opportunities through a couple solid runs and a free kick. 26 minutes in the Tigers would take a corner that was played well defensively, but during the chaos after it was cleared, they would be able to sneak the ball into the net and score the opening goal.
After some back and forth play, Freshman
Farid Robles took a shot that was blocked in the 36th minute. A free kick for the Jets in the 42nd minute set them up for a possible score again, but it was cleared out nicely by Ouachita. After being unable to capitalize on a pair of late corners, They would go into halftime still down 1-0.Â
Second Half
The Jets went into the next half aggressively as a long pass from
Kenneth Huie in the 46th minute would find
Austin Madubuike for the tap in goal. Just 5 minutes later Ouachita would retake the lead with another goal to make it 2-1. The Jets would fight hard to bring things level again, keeping the ball on the Tigers side of the field before a throw in for Newman began a run that would see
Joao Moreira score to tie things up in the 64th minute. Ouachita wouldn't go down easily however, as they took back the lead in the 69th minute after a long counterattack run.
The Jets continued to fight to try and find a 3rd equalizer, but had to avoid some dangerous situations themselves. A flooded box in the 76th minute led to a blocked shot and keeper
Juan Carlos Cordova had to scoop up the deflected ball before the Tigers could get another chance to score. A long free kick from near midfield was again grabbed out of the air by Cordova in the 84th minute, beginning another run for the Jets that ended in a shot that missed high left. After continuing to push, Newman would be fouled and awarded a free kick in the last minute of the game that was taken by
Felix Tellez Ramirez. The kick traveled high in the air and Senior
Matthew Roberts was able to find it and score to end the game in a 3-3 draw.
Next Up
The Jets will be returning home next Saturday, October 22nd to take on the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm at 7 PM as they look to continue their late season success.Â
