Box Score TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The Jets Men's soccer team traveled to Oklahoma to face off against the Northeastern State Riverhawks (9-4-3) in their final road match of the season. Newman was able to keep things close in the first half with both teams being tied 1-1 at halftime following a pair of early goals. A flood of NSU goals in the second half would lead to a loss for them however, and the Jets would fall 5-2
First Half
Both teams scored early in the first half. Newman opened up the scoring with Felix Tellez Ramirez beating out the NSU keeper after a high pass from Matthew Roberts to give them a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute. NSU would respond three minutes later when they ran down the field and took a shot that was saved by keeper Juan Carlos Cordova, but scored off the resulting corner kick to tie the game up.
The teams would battle back and forth until the 35th minute, where NSU found a second gear on offense and forced Newman into some tough defending for the rest of the half. The defense would hold out, and both teams would go into halftime still tied 1-1.
Second Half
The second half would pick up right where the first half left off, with the Jets again being forced into some tough defending positions. They would be unable to get downfield like they had in the first half, and wouldn't find any real chances until the end of the game.
In the 54th minute, NSU would begin a run that saw them score four times in the following seven minutes. This would end up being too much of a deficit for Newman to overcome, and even with a late goal in the 88th minute by Exodus Kasongo following a corner kick taken by Cedrick Price, they would lose the game 5-2.
Next Up
The Jets will look to finish out their season strongly as they return home to Wilkins Field this Saturday, October 29th to host Rogers State for Senior Day.
