The 2022-23 team celebrates its first ever tournament win as an NCAA member at the Peacock Classic in January 2023

Women’s Bowling tabbed 13th in NTCA preseason poll

Jets picked second, behind GLVC foe Maryville, in DII/DIII poll

WICHITA - In just its first year as an NCAA member, Newman Women's Bowling earned a runner-up finish in the GLVC and missed out on more postseason magic by one spot.

Heading into 2023-24, the Nation Tenpin Coaches' Association Pre-Season Poll was announced on Sunday, October 1st. The Jets were voted thirteenth in the Overall Pre-Season Poll and second amongst the NCAA DII and NCAA DIII schools, behind fellow GLVC foe Maryville University.

Newman's runner-up finish at the GLVC tournament in March saw the Jets besting Upper Iowa 2-1, Maryville 2-0, falling to McKendree 0-2, then setting up a rematch for the championship after eliminating Maryville 2-0. In that championship match, McKendree remained as consistent as ever, with the Jets falling 0-2.

The NTCA wrote, "Newman was a solid choice for the second spot in the (DII/DIII) preseason poll. The Jets also made history last year in their first year as an NCAA program, going 71-34. Head Coach Billy Murphy took the team to the Great Lakes Valley championship match and the Jets finished the season ranked 13th among all classifications."

Year two for the Jets looks optimistic. Returning many of the same faces and adding some key contributors, Newman looks to better its already impressive 71-34 all-time mark on the NCAA side.

The NCAA season officially opens October 1 and will conclude April 13 in Detroit with the national championship match. Newman's season officially kicks off with the Midstates Championship on Saturday, October 21st and continues through Sunday the 22nd.

Taking a look around the GLVC, 5 of the top 15 DII/DIII schools compete in the conference and overall, and 4 were ranked in the overall poll.
