Men's Bowling finishes in second at Mid States Championship

Only home event Men's Bowling will have all season

This weekend the Jets competed in their only home match of the season, hosting the Mid States Championship at Bowlero Northrock. The event had 35 teams from across the Midwest with 10 of the top 30 ranked teams from last season. 
 
Qualifying consisted of 6 team games on day one, with 20 baker games Sunday morning. At the completion of qualifying, the field would be cut to the top 8 teams for single elimination match play with best of five matches being played to determine the winner.
 
The Jets opened the event with a 1089 the first game. The Jets remained steady for games two through six to finish day one in 5th place. The Jets were be led by Sophomore Noah Akiona averaging 223 through 6 games day one. Akiona finished in 7th place in the individual standings. Freshman Noah Raleigh-Turner would also have a great day, averaging 215.8 for the day. Raleigh-Turner was followed by William Day who would average 211.8.
 
On day two the Jets would struggle a bit but would continue to fight to make the cut to match play finishing in 7th place. The Jets were matched up against the #2 seed for the event and the #3 ranked team in the country, St Ambrose University. The Jets would be tied 1-1, then reel off two straight games to take the match 3-1.
 
The Jets' next match would be against Mount Mercy University. The Jets were in charge of this one from the start, sweeping the Mount 3-0 to move on to the championship match where they would face #1 ranked University of Wisconsin Whitewater. Whitewater would roll in this one and defeat the Jets 0-3 despite all 3 games being very close.
 
The Jets would finish 2nd in the their first tier 1 event of the year. "We still have some things to work out," said Coach Murphy, "but it is a long season and there is so much growth to come. We learned this weekend that this group loves the match play format and has incredible fight in them."

The Jets will travel to Lawrence, Kansas this upcoming weekend to participate in the Jayhawk Classic, hosted by Baker University. The event will begin on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
