PARK CITY, Kan. - Jace Fisher notched a tournament victory at the Falcon Invite on Saturday. The Junior went 4-0 en route to the Jets' best placing. Two other Newman wrestlers, Jevin Foust and Rio Gomez, placed in their own brackets at Hartman Arena.
 
The 2023-24 campaign is the twentieth season in Newman Wrestling history. To cap off year number twenty, Newman University will serve as the host institution for the 2024 NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championships, to be held in Park City at Hartman Arena. Saturday's Falcon Invite began the historic campaign in the building that the nation's best will finish their seasons.
 
Fisher got to work early with a major decision over Jake Callahan, Avila. The Goddard native then rattled off three consecutive wins by decision, 10-3, 5-4 and 8-6, capping off a hard fought championship in the men's elite 165 bracket.
 
After being named the MIAA Freshman of the Year in 2023, Jevin Foust is not looking for a Sophomore slump. Foust took his first two matches by decision before falling via sudden victory against Trent Moses, Ottawa. A fall at 2:16 and decisions of 5-2 and 8-6 helped Foust land in the third place match. Having wrestled the maximum six matches, Foust earned a 4th place finish for his run in the consolation bracket.
 
A welcomed addition to the roster this season is heavyweight Rio Gomez. The Newton, Kansas native showed his strength by tallying four victories by fall. Gomez's debut featured a 5-1 day overall, landing him in third place.
