Box Score EMPORIA, KS - The Jets traveled to Emporia to face the Hornets for their second match up of the season.
The Hornets started the first half with an 11-3 run. A couple of threes from the Jets cut the lead to to 9 with 14 minutes to go. Emporia kept trying to pull away, but Newman kept hitting back. Emporia extended their lead to 14, but the Jets closed to gap to make it 9 points again with 4 minutes to go in the half. The Jets were shot 55.6% from three and 45% from the floor, but Emporia could not miss. The Jets went into the break down by 13.
Stevie Strong led the Jets in scoring in the first half with 8 points. Sam Somerhalder had 3 rebounds and 2 assists in the half.
Coming out of the break, Emporia struck first with a 4-0 run. With 15 minutes to play, Emporia extended their lead to 21 points which forced the Jets to take a timeout to try to regroup and make a run back at them. The Hornets shot the ball over 60% from the field and 51% from the arc in the second half. In the end, the hot shooting for the Hornets didn't allow the Jets to fight back into the game. Newman lost 92-63.
Strong lead the Jets in scoring with 15, which continues his streak of 10+ points in every game this year.
Stevie Smith had 14 points.
The Jets are back in action Wednesday February 15th against Northeastern State at 7:30 pm.
