ARLINGTON, TX - The United States Bowling Congress Collegiate division announced Sectional sites on Wednesday with both the men and women being assigned to the Dallas sectional. The top 64 women's teams and top 80 men's teams from across the country get split up into 4 sectional sites each year. The Jets teams qualify this year for the 20
th year in a row and will hope to make the 8
th trip for the men to the national championships to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada April 19th -22
nd and the 17
th trip for the women.
Hoosier Classic Recap
Indianapolis, IN. Both Newman Bowling teams traveled to the Hoosier Classic for the last regular season event for the men and the last USBC event for the women. The Hoosier is one of the toughest fields of the year and would have 78 varsity men's teams and 65 varsity women's teams.
The men would get off to a good start on Saturday and finish in the top 10, but on Sunday couldn't get anything going and would finish in 13
th place. This finish would also move them up to 14
th in the USBC Power Poll to end the season.
NU was led by Fr. Noah Akiona who averaged 220 and had a 299 game and Zachary Smullen who averaged 219.
Next up is Sectionals in Dallas, TX March 10-12.
The women would get off to a rough start on Saturday, shooting 866 in game one but would rally and move into the top 10 after the first day of play. The Jets would come out on Sunday and make up some ground on the leaders but would fall just short of match play, finishing in 9
th place.
The Jets were led by Senior
Addyson Schiffelbein with a 201 average and Morgan Cooper, averaging 199.
Next up for the women will be The Big Red Classic hosted by the University of Nebraska March 3-5, then the sectional championships in Dallas, Texas.
