KANSAS CITY, Mo. -
Garrett VanDeventer has been named MIAA Pitcher of The Week.
The senior from Arkansas City, Kansas earned the honor after his 3 hit complete game shutout of No. 21 Rogers State. VanDeventer went the distance and did not allow a base runner to reach third base after the 2nd inning. The Jets won the game 2-0 behind his outing. No. 15's complete game was his 2nd of his career.
Garrett is the second Jet to earn MIAA's Baseball Player of The Week honors.
Jake Angelico earned
MIAA Hitter of The Week after his week 1 performance. VanDeventer is the first Newman pitcher to ever be named MIAA Pitcher of The Week.
"I'm very blessed and thankful to God for this and to my teammates for the work they put in behind me to make this happen. There's no way I could've done this without them, and even though the award was in my name it was a full family effort in every aspect of the game." Said VanDeventer.
The complete game shutout was the first time Newman has shut out Rogers State since the 2016 season and the first time the Hillcats have been shutout all season. He held RSU to a .100 average over 9 innings.
You can catch Garrett and the rest of the Jets in action on the road this week before coming back to McCarthy Field on March 7th when they take on Central Christian.
