LAST TIME OUT
Newman hosted Northwestern Oklahoma State, their second matchup of the season. The Jets put on a dominant performance and swept the Rangers for the second time this season. In game 1 Tori Waggoner recorded 3 RBIs and scored once. Gianna Navarro recorded 2 RBIs in the game. The Jets took the first game 8-6. In the second game Madi Canez, Laurie Cooke, and Anissa Ramos went 2-3 from the plate. Ramos also recorded 2RBIs. Megan Walz pitched a complete game and took her first win of the season. MEET YOUR COACHES
Andrea Gustafson is in her 4th year as the Head Women's Softball Coach. Her 2022 campaign led the Jets to a 18-30 overall record with a 9-17 conference record.
Joe Yegge is entering his second year in charge of the Griffons program after taking his team to the MIAA tournament in his first year.Â
Naomi Tellez is in her first year as the Bearcats coach. Tellez comes from the University of North Dakota where she served as the pitching coach.Â
THE JETS
Newman is currently 9-17, 0-2 in conference and are looking to add to their 2 game win streak. The Jets last time out against the Rangers was a strong showing, and were able to get both the offense and defense. The Jets defense in the second game against NWOSU were perfect, recording no errors. The Jets first conference matchups were against a ranked Washburn team and Emporia State. The Jets look to rally back and get their first conference wins of the season.Â
SCOUTING THE ENEMIES
Missouri Western is 18-5 heading into the second conference weekend on a 1 game win streak. The Griffons faced Rockhurst, who snapped their previous 7 game win streak. The Griffons fell 4-7 in game 1, and took game 2 4-3. The Griffons are averaging .326 batting average while holding their opponents to a .222 batting average as well as an OPS of .918.
