3/29/2023 4:28:00 PM

WICHITA – Newman Athletics and Joanna Pryor, Director of Athletics, named Victor Domingues Head Men's Soccer Coach on Wednesday. Domingues is the third ever coach in program history.

"We are excited for the direction of our men's soccer program. Victor brings dedication and a passion for the game of soccer unlike any other," said Director of Athletics, Joanna Pryor. "I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to our search committee who worked diligently in ensuring the proper fit for the mission of our athletic department and the future of NCAA Division II Men's Soccer in Wichita."

On January 17th of this year, Domingues was selected to serve as the first head coach of the National Premier Soccer League's West Texas FC. The NPSL club enters its first season this summer and replaces the Midland-Odessa Sockers.

"I'm excited to come into a program that I can make a difference, an impact and get back to having success, as history of this program shows," said Domingues. "Our team will be disciplined defensively, tough to break down and look to make teams uncomfortable through high pressing and intensity. Offensively, we will look to be dynamic and creative going forward to provide an exciting environment for the community to come out and support an energetic squad."

Victor Domingues spent three years as the assistant coach and the 2022 season as head coach for UT Permian Basin Men's Soccer. In February, UTPB announced the discontinuation of its men's soccer and men's cross-country programs.
UTPB reached the Lone Star Conference playoffs for the first time in 2021 after winning two of their final three games.

Domingues helped lead the Falcons to their first winning season since joining the LSC in the spring of 2021. The Falcons tied for the second-best scoring average in the league and had the second most saves in the league. In the final game of the regular season, the Falcons scored four goals in the second half and overtime for a thrilling comeback win over Lubbock Christian.  The Falcons finished fourth in the LSC and just missed postseason due to a goal differential tiebreaker. UTPB had three All-Conference selections and an All-Freshman team member.

Domingues worked with a young roster in 2019 that flashed potential.  The team improved their win total by three games and kept the Falcons competitive against some of the top competition in Division II.  The Falcons finished the season with points in four of their final five home events.

Prior to joining UTPB, the Sao Paulo, Brazil native was an assistant coach at Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio.  His first season with the team saw the Yellow Jackets post their best conference record in program history, had an All-Conference Second Team member, and had a majority of the team play in the NPSL and UPSL amateur leagues.

Victor played at Lubbock Christian where he was a wing and central midfielder for four years.  Prior to playing at LCU, Victor played youth for professional sides Associacao Atletica Preta (BR) and U-23 Club de Futbol America (MX).

Upon his hiring, Domingues had this to say regarding his feelings toward his new beginning: "I'd like to thank everyone at Newman for helping me with this transition and providing a positive, supportive and welcoming environment. Most importantly, I would like to thank Joanna for believing and trusting in me to lead these young men and change the culture within Newman University Men's Soccer. I'm extremely excited to get going, let's go Jets!"

The Jets have struggled recently with back-to-back one-win seasons. The Jets are just three seasons removed from a 9-6-1 year in 2019. Newman looks to return to its winning ways in 2023 and beyond. NU and Domingues will continue spring season work through the remainder of the semester.
