1/31/2024 9:24:00 AM

DALLAS, TX. - Men's Bowling heads to San Antonio, Texas this weekend to compete at the SWIBC conference championship, after a placing in second at two events this past weekend. The Jets are coming off of a great performance at SWIBC 5 and SWIBC 6 where the Jets broke three more all-time scoring records and finished in second place both days, with the only team ahead of them in the 15-team field #1 ranked Wichita State.

At SWIBC 5, the Jets would lead most of the day but would see the Shockers run them down in the last few games of the day. The Jets would break the 5-game qualifying record on day one, knocking down  5668 pins, averaging 1134 per game. The Jets would be led by a trio of Jets that would also make the all-tournament team. Senior Chasten Pojas would average 232.2 and finish in 3rd overall followed by junior Silas Limes averaging 228.2 and sophomore Zach Smullen averaging 226.

SWIBC 6 would be another good event, breaking a few all-time records with the Jets coming out of the gates firing a 1275 game and breaking the single game record which they had just broken a month ago in Las Vegas. The Jets would continue the high scoring pace and would also break the 7-game qualifying record knock down a staggering 7778 pins averaging 1129 a game. The Jets were led on this day by sophomore Ethan Gomez who averaged 239.9 for the event and would also be named to the All-tournament team. Just behind Ethan in sixth and seventh place would be sophomore Noah Akiona and sophomore Zach Smullen who would average 239 and 237 respectively.

The Jets are currently ranked 7th in the NCBCA national coaches poll and 5th in the USBC RPI power rankings. "The men continue to get better every day and are positioned for a long post season run" said Coach Murphy.

Men's Bowling has just two more regular season events, with the SWIBC Conference this weekend and the Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis next weekend.
