HASTINGS, Neb. - Newman Wrestling competed in its first tournament of 2024, heading to Nebraska for the second time this season.
Dylan Sheler was the top finisher for the Jets in the tournament, finishing in second place in the 125 weight class. On his way to second place, Sheler defeated three opponents.
Collin Creach finished in fourth place in the 133 weight class, rebounding from an early loss to make it all the way back to the third place contest.
Colby Schreiner also placed, earning a third place finish in the 149 bracket. Schreiner made it to the championship semifinals in his bracket and would then go on to win two more contests to finish third.
Several Jets faced off against each other as well during the course of the tournament, with Creach taking on
Jaxson Newcomb and heavyweights
De'Leon Freeman and
Rio Gomez meeting each other in the bracket.
The Jets will head to Nebraska again next week, meeting Nebraska-Kearney in an MIAA tilt and will then take part in the UCM tournament in Warrensburg.
