10/21/2024 2:00:00 PM

WICHITA- The Jets competed in the 65th annual Mid States Championship this weekend held at Bowlero Northrock Lanes in Wichita. The Jets had just come off dominating performances, winning both the SWIBC I and II in Dallas, Texas two weeks ago.

Mid States Championship
- The Jets would get off to a slow start on Saturday but with consistent play most of the day, the Jets moved up to 5th after day one. On Sunday Newman had a very consistent performance averaging 199.3 over the 16 games of Baker, moving them up to 4th place headed into bracket play. The Jets were led by Junior Noah Akiona who averaged 214 for the weekend.

- Going into bracket play the 4th seeded Jets faced Mckendree University, the Bearcats are currently 20th in the power rankings. It would take five games in the best of five  match, but Silas Limes stepped up clutch in the 10th frame and threw two strikes to get the win to move on to the semifinal match. The semifinal match was  against cross town foe Wichita State University, the Shockers finished last season as the top team in the country and returned most of that roster from a year ago. The match would be very close through three games with the Jets winning two out of the first three to go up 2-1. The Jets got hot and put away the Shockers, 3-1 with a 232-163 game four win.

- That would set up a final match with Oklahoma Christian who is ranked 3rd in the current power rankings. The final match would be more of the same with the first two games being split by each school, then the Jets hit the gas pedal and went on to win the next two games 231-171 and 234-163 to close out the match 3-1 to claim the Mid States Championship.

This win is the third in three events this year, with wins at SWIBC I and II earlier this season.

SWIBC I & II
- The Jets won the SWIBC I and II two weeks ago with wonderful performances. At the SWIBC I and II tournaments, the Jets were led by Kalin Ogata and Brady Longenecker on Saturday. Then Led by Zach Smullen and Noah Akiona on Sunday. All four would make their first All Tournament Teams of the year, Smullen also shot a 300 game on Sunday.

The Jets are back in action this weekend at the Jayhawk Classic on October 26th.
