Nine Jets earn All-GAC honors, thirteen earn a spot on the Academic Honor Roll

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.- The Great American Conference released its All-GAC Men's Soccer teams, postseason awards, and academic honor roll for the 2024 season. Nine Jets earned All-GAC honors, while thirteen earned a spot on the academic honor roll. 
 
ALL-GAC Men's Soccer First Team: Alberto Romano
 
- Alberto Romano becomes the third Jet to be selected as an ALL-GAC First Teamer. The last time a Newman player was voted into the First Team was in 2019, when Victor Rubio Lopez and Ed Jabbari both earned a spot in the desired 13 player list. Romano led the Jets with 12 goals, 25 points, and 30 shots on goal, breaking the Newman season record for all three categories. He participated in every match and tallied 1396 minutes. Beto led the conference in shots and shots on goal, and was only one goal away from leading the conference in goals in the regular season. 
 
ALL-GAC Men's Soccer Second Team: Gabriel Dias Juliani, Gustavo Dias Juliani, Paulo Villalobos, Caio Tascheto
 
- Gabriel Dias Juliani thrived in his first season as a Jet, scoring 7 goals and assisting two as well. Gabriel was a key player for the Jets throughout the whole season, scoring very important goals including two game-winning ones. Juliani had the highest shot on goal average on the team, having over half of his shots between the three posts. 
 
- Gustavo Dias Juliani had an outstanding 2024 regular season. The older Juliani brother broke the record for most assists in a season with 10, and still has at least one match to play to increase his tally. Gustavo had the third highest points for Newman, with 14. Juliani finished second in assists in the conference with an average of .588 assists per game. 
 
- The Dias Juliani are the first brothers to receive an ALL-GAC award on the same team. Both brothers accumulated the same amount of minutes with 1115. 
 
- Paulo Villalobos rightfully earned his spot in the ALL-GAC second team. Villalobos played and started every match he was available for, and was an important asset for the Jets midfield. Paulo scored his first goals as a Jet in his final season at Newman, including a game-winning goal in Colorado against Saint Martin's. He also added four assists, adding up a total of 8 points. 
 
- Caio Tascheto shined in his first and last season as a Jet, scoring two goals and providing two assists. Tascheto was a key part of the Jets defense, holding opponents down to only 195 total shots. Caio scored a crucial goal in the 73rd minute against Colorado Christian that gave Newman an important 2-1 win at home.
 
ALL-GAC Men's Soccer Honorable Mention: Gael Gonzalez, Cameron Schroder, Gibran Villalobos, Juan Carlos Cordova

- Gael Gonzalez is a Junior defender for the Jets. In the 2024 season, he accumulated 1512 minutes through the regular season. He played in 17 games, starting in all 17 of them. Gonzalez netted his first goal of the season in the 4-1 win against Ouachita Baptist on October 24th. He also found the back of the net against Rogers State on Halloween. Gonzalez scored his third and final goal of the regular season against Fort Hays State in November. Gonzalez tallied six points on the year, taking 16 shots with six on goal, and scoring three goals. 

- Cameron Schroder played and started in all 18 regular season games where he tallied 1367 minutes through the 2024 season. Schroder scored his first goal of the year against Southern Nazarene in the Jets 5-3 win in September. Schroder then scored the next game against Northeastern State to help lead the Jets to a 5-1 win. Scroder tallied two goals, four points, 11 shots with two shots on goal this season. 
 
- Gibran Villalobos played and started in all 18 games for the Jets this season. He led the team with 1554 minutes through those 18 games. Villalobos tallied his assist in the first matchup against the Tigers. His assist helped the Jets score their sole goal of the game. Villalobos recorded six shots with one on goal. 

- Juan Carlos Cordova played in 12 games, starting all 12 with 1080 minutes on the year. Cordova tallied 50 saves while earning two shutouts on the year. Cordova broke the Jets record of total career saves with 217 total saves.
