Topeka, Kan. - Softball will come back to action this weekend with a five game tournament hosted by Washburn. Newman will play two games on Friday, one game on Saturday and two games on Sunday.

Last time out:

The last time the Jets were out on the field they played a double header against Southern Nazarene. The Jets were unable to stop the Crimson Storms offense in the first game, with the wind being an uninvited guest throughout the whole series.  The second game came down to the wire with the Jets tying the game in the top of the seventh inning, and the Crimson Storms winning it in the bottom of the seventh with a three run home run.

Opponents:

Newman will look to rebound from those results on Friday morning, facing Minnesota State. The Mavericks get to this tournament with a 5-1 record and having scored a total of nineteen runs in the last two games, having only played six innings in both of the games.

To close up Friday's games, Softball will play Maryville in the afternoon. The Saints carry a 1-8 overall record and will get to Topeka with a four game losing streak.

On Saturday morning, the Jets will face Winona State for their only game of the day. The Warriors have a 5-1 record so far this season, and in their last game they finished with a 9-1 score aided by two home runs from Senior Sam Keller.

Sunday's games will start with Newman coming up against the University of Sioux Falls at noon. The Cougars total a 5-6 record after losing their last two games in the Emporia State Classic.

To wrap up the tournament, Softball will go toe to toe with Wayne State in the afternoon. The Wildcats hold a 1-7 record and have lost the last five games they have played, with the last four being in the Emporia State Classic.

 Home talent:

Hayley Bonython leads the Jets offense with thirteen hits, two home runs and an impressive .419 batting average after ten games played.

Lauren Kwak is also in great form accumulating one home run, a .333 hitting average, and leading the team with twelve RBIs.

Kaitlyn Praught has been a great asset to the Jets offense in the past five games totaling seven hits and a team leading .583 hitting average.

The Jets defense is in good hands with Jackie Gold. The Senior from Syracuse has won the last four games she has started, and accumulates a 2.62 ERA.

Up next:

After the tournament, the Jets will host a midweek double header against McPherson.
