WICHITA - The Jets come back to action this Tuesday in a double header against Northwestern Oklahoma State, followed by the first MIAA double header of the season on Friday against Emporia State, and a third double header of the week facing Washburn on Saturday.
Softball hasn't played a game since February 25th. Bad weather forced the Jets to postpone their home double header against McPherson this past Wednesday.
Last time out:
The last time the Jets were out on the field was in the Washburn Tournament. Newman beat Wayne State 6-5 in a very complete overall game from the Jets. Gianna Navarro, Danielle Rodriguez and Hayley Bonython led the Jets in offense. The defense was led by Paola Zamacona, who got her first win of the season, and Kinyon DeCorte who was able to close out the game and secure the win for the Jets
Opponents:
Northwestern Oklahoma State:
The first double header of the week will face Newman with Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Rangers have accumulated an 8-8 record and have lost the last three games they've played. They were only able to score one run in the three games they played against Oklahoma Baptist.
The last time the Jets faced the Rangers was in March of 2023. Newman took the win with a 6-2 performance. The Jets have won the last five encounters between both teams.
Emporia State:
The Jets will face Emporia in their first MIAA double header of the season on Friday. The Hornets hold a 15-6 overall record and they have won the last fourteen matches they've played.
Emporia won both games last season against the Jets with a 2-5, 0-8 double header win.
Senior Outfielder Alexis Dial just won her second straight MIAA hitter of the week and will be a player to watch for the Jets. She's averaging .515 hitting, has thirty four hits, four home runs and thirty one RBIs.
Washburn:
The last series of the week for the Jets will be against Washburn. The Ichabods will start conference play with a 19-5 record. They lost the last game they played against McKendree University at the McKendree Invitational.
Washburn has won the last nine games they've played against the Jets. Their last matchup was in March of 2023 and it ended with a 3-11 final score for the Ichabods.
Senior Jaycee Ginter leads Washburn's offense with an impressive .548 batting average, thirty four hits, three home runs and twenty two RBIs.
Home talent:
Hayley Bonython keeps showcasing her skills and leads the Jets with a .389 batting average, twelve runs, twelve RBIs and three home runs.
Tori Waggoner is in great form after the Washburn Tournament totaling thirteen hits, two RBIs and averaging .277 hitting.
Gianna Navarro is one of the Jets leaders in offense as well having a .262 hitting average, a team leading sixteen hits and six RBIs.
Pitcher Kinyon DeCorte is the second Jet pitcher with most wins accumulating two wins this season, 32.2 innings pitched and twenty two strikeouts.
