Jets win again against Bearcats in yet another tight contest

Newman loses several leads, but regains it in eighth inning

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Newman Baseball won it's third straight series on Saturday afternoon, taking on Northwest Missouri State in another wild and exciting game that saw both teams lose a sizable lead through nine innings.

Yesterday, Newman had to get the job done in extra innings following a 5-5 scoreline after nine innings. Trent Trammell hit a leadoff home run in the tenth, which helped Newman to a 7-5 victory in the series opener.

Newman took a huge 4-0 lead in the first inning, with three of the runs coming from a Jason Schneider triple with the bases loaded.

The Jets continued their dominance in the next inning, as singles from both Trammell and Connor Owens each brought home a run.

The Bearcats would have a big second inning as well, and would get within just one run of tying the game, with the teams combining for eleven runs in just the first two innings.

After having two batters struck out in the third, Newman quickly went back out on defense and surrendered the tying run in the bottom of the third.

A Bearcats two RBI home run gave them their first lead of the game, as the Jets offense couldn't find hits for a period of time in the middle of the game.

The Jets got their lead back in the sixth, with Eli Wohl being able to score off of an error by the third baseman. Two more singles from Blake Mitchell and Hunter Brown would each bring two runners home off of each hit.

Northwest Missouri State tied it once again in the seventh, with another two RBI home run to tie the game at 11-11.

The deciding run was scored by Mitchell in the eighth inning, who crossed home plate off a Shawn Marquis fielders choice.

Andrew Prieve would then earn his second save of the series in the bottom of the ninth, striking out a batter and allowing just one hit.

Jared Newton earned his first win of the season, as he helped escape a tough inning with two strikeouts and allowing one hit.

Schneider finished the day with three RBIs, while Mitchell, Brown and Owens each had two.

The win moves the Jets up in the MIAA standings, who are now above Emporia State and are now just two games back of the elusive eight seed. The Jets will wrap up their series in Maryville tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
